PIC GYM

PIC GYMGym-tastic! All we needed was lots of sunshine for this latest initiative in Winchester, and that has certainly been provided for the official launch (Saturday 6th April).

Earlier, as our picture shows, the Mayor of Winchester, Frank Pearson, put his best arms and feet forward at the new outdoor gym at Imber Road in Winnall.

The Mayor says it’s a great idea: “This outdoor fitness facility is an opportunity for residents to lead an active and healthy lifestyle while socialising at the same time. Young and old can keep fit any time of the day, even exercise during their lunch breaks.”

It was decided to install new fitness equipment as a direct response to comments from the local community, inspired by last year’s London Olympics. Residents can set up complex fitness programmes or just informal work-outs in the open air with equipment that is accessible to all.

The new low-impact and resistance-based equipment is aimed at helping people stay fit and active. There’s a health-walker, sit-up bench, power-push, pull-down challenger, handle-boat, push-hands, ski-stepper and mini-ski.

No membership is required for the new outdoor gym.

The photograph shows Lydia Lockhart, Active Lifestyles Officer for Winchester City Council, and the Mayor of Winchester Frank Pearson trying out the new equipment.
