The train NOT standing at Platform 2 in Winchester

Many train passengers from Winchester (ourselves included!) will often be frustrated with weekend engineering works which leave lengthy bus journeys.
Passengers this weekend have faced considerable delays with the line closed through Winchester between Eastleigh and Basingstoke.
But the weekend has provided us with a great working example on how essential this maintenance is on the line through Winchester.
Great vantage points have enabled us to watch a huge team of engineers lift up the entire track alongside Platform 2 (towards Eastleigh) and re-lay it ahead of the morning commute on Monday 23 February.
Saturday’s weather was mainly dry and bright, but the team has had to work through torrential rain and strong winds through most of Sunday in order to finish on time.
Old sleepers have also been removed and will no doubt appear somewhere in the country soon as borders for garden areas.
And apart from the train horns warning those workers when the supply trains are about to move off with their cargo of track and ballast, we must say that it has actually been a quieter weekend here than normal! No freight trains speeding through…
Have a great commute this week.
