Hampshire travel warning

Everyone across Hampshire is being urged to take heed of travel and weather warnings that have been issued for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight in advance of expected extreme weather.

Hampshire Police have told Winchester Today that both Hampshire and the Isle of Wight will be hit by high winds between 3am and 6pm on Monday 8 February.

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning (be prepared) for high winds in Portsmouth, Southampton and the Isle of Wight. A yellow warning (be aware) is in place for areas inland like Winchester.

Travel Warning – “Only Venture Out If Absolutely Necessary”

Winds are expected to reach 60-70mph here, and 80mph in coastal areas. The strongest winds are expected between 7am and 3pm.

This is likely to lead to difficult driving conditions and travel service disruption over the morning rush hour, fallen trees and minor structural damage.

The advice from Hampshire Police is to only travel if necessary, particularly in coastal areas.
