Problems with public transport engineering and the continuing M3 roadworks will probably go a long way to convince everyone here that it really IS best to stay in Winch this weekend.

Anyone trying to get to London on the trains this entire weekend via South West Trains or CrossCountry face a closed line between Winchester and Basingstoke with a bus replacement service. It’s even worse on Sunday if you need to use the Brentford loop.

Now – the thing is – did anyone consult with Highways England? We say that because the M3 is closed between Junction 3 and 2 from tonight (Friday evening) right through until 0530 Monday morning for the demolition of a bridge.

A controlled demolition of the old Woodlands Lane bridge will take place over the weekend – this is the one located in Windlesham between Junctions 2 and 3. Highways England says its condition has deteriorated significantly since it was first constructed.

So – take a long good look at our beautiful photograph provided to us by our friends at Winchester Cathedral.

We think it really is best to enjoy the cold weather with a hot toddy, go along and have a go on the ice skating rink which now has a roof after last year’s horrendous rain. Go along and browse at the Christmas market and wander around Winchester in general this weekend.

Unless you’re working in London over the weekend as we know some have to. Or you’re trying to get to the rugby at Twickenham. Good luck!
