First Group

Winchester’s MP Steve Brine says he’s had an excellent meeting this morning at the Houses of Parliament with representatives from FirstGroup over the new South West Rail Franchise (looking at the picture – quite possibly the best meeting ‘office’ in London? – Ed).

“As promised when they were awarded the franchise last month, excellent initial meeting with FirstGroup at the HoP this morning” writes Steve.

“They take over the new franchise serving our area on 20 August. Lots going on, but positive response from them on Micheldever and Shawford station parking and future of flexible ticketing.

“If I’m re-elected, we will be holding an ASKFirstGroup meeting for constituents later this year.”

Speaking to Winchester Today on 27 March within a few minutes of the award of the new franchise, Steve Brine said he was delighted with the switch: “Congratulations to First Group for snatching this key franchise away from Stagecoach/South West Trains. I’ve met regularly with both bidders over the course of the last few years and been impressed with the ambition First have shown for the service they can offer the public.

“Their undertaking to increase capacity – in spacious carriages – deliver wi-fi that works, a modern smart and flexible season ticket policy as well as new lower fares for 16-18 year olds are really exciting. I look forward to working with the team and will hold them to every word.”
