Hampshire’s power supplier SSEN has apologised for a power cut on Wednesday afternoon which left some customers in the dark for the rest of the day.

Areas including Alresford, Cheriton, Winchester,  Warnford and surrounding areas of Basingstoke were all affected.

More than 1,300 homes were affected and most had their power restored within five minutes.

However, a small cluster of homes had to wait until 2230 to be back on supply.

Spokesperson for Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks – Samantha O’Connor – told Winchester Today that they tried to get everyone back on as soon as they could: “We would like to apologise to all of those affected by the interruption to the supplies.

“Due to the way our network is set up, our engineers were able to restore all customers remotely from our control room in stages.”
