Winchester’s MP Steve Brine has given his full backing to the Prime Minister following notification from the Chairman of the 1922 Committee – Sir Graham Brady – that more than 48 letters had been received expressing no confidence in the leadership of Theresa May.
He took to his Facebook account to make this statement: “To assist constituents emailing me this morning; I will be supporting the Prime Minister in tonight’s confidence vote.
“This is about the national interest not personalities and naked ambition.
“Theresa May has the most difficult job imaginable and I think, whatever your view of Brexit, this is a time to stand together.”
Earlier, the Prime Minister stood outside Number 10 to say much the same thing.
Most of the comments in reply to Steve Brine’s post we’re also supportive.
A few, however, questioned his loyalty to someone who had “failed disastrously on a matter of vital national importance.”
Others suggested that they were tired of Brexit and infighting – and that more attention should be paid to domestic matters in Winchester.
