I’m Voting Deal – MP

Winchester’s MP Steve Brine has told his constituents that he’s voting to back Theresa May’s deal on Brexit later this evening.

He says the country needs to move on.

He’s used his Facebook account to give a short explanation: “Just to remind constituents (and to repeat a well worn phrase) nothing has changed. I am faced with a binary choice – deal or no deal – and I choose deal.

“No deal, in my opinion as a Minister and a responsible MP, must be avoided and, if we have to extend Article 50 to prevent that, so be it.

“Ensuring safe passage out of the political structures of the EU in March means protecting our economy and safeguarding the rights of my constituents here who are EU citizens as well as those who exercise their right to live there.

“Above all, our country needs to move on, to focus on the future relationship with our friends in the European Union AND to seize the opportunities of a confident new global Britain, but also to pour our energies into the many domestic issues that matter.

Whatever happens next, I continue to be British, European and a citizen of Winchester I call home.
