WINCHESTER CITY have extended their impressive recent run, which now consists of just one defeat since Boxing Day.
Citizens ran out eventual 3-0 winners at home to Fleet Town on a sunny Saturday afternoon at the City Ground.
A cagey opening saw Fleet Town defending deeply and the Citizens forced to play patient football and wait for an opening.
The first came after 18 minutes, when defender, Rob Flooks, headed against the crossbar from a Jamie Barron corner.
City then had a flurry of corners and both Rob Carr and Oli Bailey came close for the hosts but they were unable to break the deadlock in a tight first-half.
The game changed early in the second-half when the visitors were reduced to ten men.
City’s pressure continued to build as the half progressed and the games opening goal finally came on 73 minutes, when Tyrell Mitford came off the bench and fired a free-kick into the top corner.
A second goal followed shortly afterwards, when Joe Cook finished in the bottom corner from distance.
Two became three late in the game, when skipper Jamie Barron also scored from distance to seal the points and another clean sheet for Manager Craig Davis’ side: “A job done in the end. A difficult day on a very dry pitch made moving the ball difficult. We played some good stuff at times and just needed that goal. Well done to the lads!”
Man-of-the match went to midfielder, Joe Cook, receiving his award (below).
