City Cruise To Victory

Winchester City have kept up their unbeaten start to the season with a 3-0 victory over Melksham Town in a game that quite frankly saw City keeper Ryan Pryce face little by way of threat.

Oli Bailey scored for City after just 4 minutes, and the despair on the face of the Melksham Town manager was clear to see as his side conceded another goal within just 10 seconds of the second half restarting with Olly Balmer finishing easily via Route 1.

Why am I smiling ref? We’ve just gone 2-nil up!

Bailey got a second in the 81st minute and easily saw out the remaining ten minutes or so, even managing to make substitutions to give others some match action.

City’s players are applauded off the pitch

There were plenty of references in the matchday programme to disappointing recent performances, but the club’s Matt Richbell says today’s showing was entirely different: “Solid display, solid at the back, dangerous going forward – and there could have been more goals too.

“We’ve played okay in the last few games, but we’ve missed a few players and things haven’t quite ‘clicked’, but everything clicked today.”

Development Manager Josh Taylor called the showing a “top performance.” He tweeted to say it was mature, disciplined and “back to our more clinical selves.”

Next up for City is the FA Cup Preliminary Round Replay away to AFC Stoneham on Tuesday evening.

Attendance: 171
