Hampshire seamer Kyle Abbott has gone into the record books by taking 17 wickets in a match.

The fact that Hampshire beat Somerset by 136 runs in their final home game of the season will now seem almost completely irrelevant.

Abbott’s 17 wickets in the match included 3 wickets in 4 balls this afternoon (Wednesday 18 September).

It broke Hampshire’s record which stood on 16 wickets since 1927, it’s the first 17 since 1939, and they’re the best match bowling figures in England since Jim Laker’s 19 in 1956.
