Winchester City made the 350-mile round trip to North Devon on Saturday afternoon and came away with an impressive 6-1 victory away at Barnstaple Town.

It looked like being a long afternoon for the hosts as Olly Balmer, Simba Mlambo and IK Hill were running at the Barnstaple defence from the outset.

It was Mlambo who opened the scoring when he poked home from close range after Liam Gilbert’s effort was dropped by Steve Oliver in the home goal.

Mlambo then added his second following a goal mouth scramble and a third goal followed shortly before half-time when IK Hill finished well.

Simba Mlambo completed his hat-trick after the restart following a neat one and one – and on another day, Simba could have had two hat-tricks.

Jamie Barron fired the fifth goal past help the helpless Oliver and the scoring was complete for City when substitute, Rob Carr, weaved past the defenders and finished smartly.

Barnstaple did pull a goal back from penalty spot but that was merely a consolation goal.
