Matt Richbell reports on another 3 points in the bag for the Citizens:

Sholing 1 Winchester City 2

An injury-hit Winchester City came from behind to win 2-1 away at Sholing in the Southern League Division One South on a cold and wet Saturday afternoon (5 October).

The Citizens had gone a goal behind in the first-half but goals from Jamie Barron and Domenico Panesar-Dower helped them overcome the Boatmen at Portsmouth Road.

Sholing started brightly and went ahead very early on with a close range effort. Sholing continued to put lots of pressure on the City defence but the visitors defended resolutely and stood their ground to stay in the game.

City drew level after 20 minutes, when skipper Jamie Barron fired into the top corner past former City keeper, Ryan Gosney. Gosney then denied Simba Mlambo (pictured) as he had several opportunities to put City ahead.

After half-time it was more of the same with both sides battling hard but to little avail. Dan Williamson had a cross-cum-shot that almost went into the top corner but Simba Mlambo was again denied by Gosney. From the resulting corner, Gosney dropped the ball at the feet of Panesar-Dower, who tapped home from close range.

Olly Balmer and Keith Emmerson (pictured) had chances to extend City’s lead but both were denied.

The rain came down in the second-half but this didn’t dampen City’s spirits and Craig Davis’ side returned back up the M3 with three points to see City move to within one point of the play-off positions.
